Acne

Acne is a skin condition that is common during adolescence, affecting 80% or more of teenagers. Although less common in adults, nearly 50% of people in their twenties and thirties continue to battle this condition.  Young or old, people who suffer with acne are often self-conscious about their skin and find it both stressful and socially inhibiting.  Causes of acne vary (e.g. genetic, hormonal, bacterial, lifestyle) and treatment is important in order to improve the appearance and reduce the frequency and severity of breakouts.  Treatment can also help to prevent/minimize scarring and/or PIH (postinflammatory hyperpigmentation).

Treatment may include:

  • Benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid
  • Tretinoin
  • Oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics
  • Laser or light therapy
  • Vitamins and supplements
  • Sun Protection
